10.20.08 Nocturnal's Wins At The Buzzer!

A week into the Jersey Barrier competition Nocturnal’s barrier was stolen.
Which, in itself, is a trick worth awarding since the things way 300 pounds and are not easily moved.

And so Nocturnal was out of the running.
Until the last day when their replacement barrier arrived.
The guys muscled out a ton of good footage in the course of one day to creep in and snake the prize
with this little number by KYLE NICHOLSon, getting jumped by a Vroom Vroom:

It may not be the gnarliest trick but it definitely is the nuttiest.

Even if that trick didn’t win it Nocturnal posted up three minutes worth of footage in the final hours and any one of their tricks could have taken it.

In the end the Red Bull Skate team was going to vote on the Top 5 clips as voted by the fans but
due to rampant cheating, extortion, hanging chads, manipulation and cyber warfare the
voting was opened up to all the clips and the winning clip
ended up being one of Nocturnal’s that was submitted the last day of the contest.

We thank and appreciate all the shops, skaters and readers that participating in making this event such a good time.
Congrats, Kyle, Nocturnal and Philly.

07.15.08 Who Is Chris Davis?

Who is Chris Davis? Well, he’s been in first place nearly from the beginning of the Jersey Barriers Contest for his gnar wallie into the super steep bank around the corner from NJ Skateshop’s Sayreville store. He recently borrowed the barrier and has been driving around Jersey in his buddy Greg’s truck, taking it from spot to spot. We took a minute to catch up with Chris and find out who he is….

The best part about being from Jersey?
Its seems like being from New Jersey has made me become a much harder worker. You can’t sit around here and wait for things to happen, you gotta make them happen yourself. It has definitely given me a lot of character. NJ is a pretty ghetto state too so it toughens you up.

Most Embarrassing moment:
When I was really young I went to Sea World on a family vacation. We were at the dolphin tank feeding them fish when I got an explosive feeling in my stomach. I tried to tell my parents that I needed to go to the bathroom but they were too caught up watching flipper catch the fish they threw. So I decided to man up and take matters into my own hands. A few minutes later my parents realized I was gone and started to panic. They checked everywhere and there was no sign of me. They told the Sea World Staff that I disappeared and quickly shut Sea World down. They locked all the gates so no one could escape with me. Everyone began searching for me, the search came to an end when someone heard some rustling in a bush. They peeked there head in and found me pants down pushing a log out. It was pretty embarrassing.

Perfect man for a bank heist:
When I was about three years old my dad had an old pick up truck. I used to climb up the front of it and jump off the roof. One day as I was climbing the front of it, I put my hands in the metal grill and proceeded to lift myself up. The next thing I knew I was on the ground with blood spraying all over me. I ran inside and showed my parents, they rushed me to the hospital where I found out that I had ripped my fingertips on my right hand completely off. I had to get skin graft done to sew back the skin on the raw spots. After the surgery I am left with retarded looking fingertips and no fingerprints.

Plans for the future?
I plan to keep skating and traveling as much as i can. Im currently working on a video part for Justin Warias’ HD video and the Hijinx Skateboarding video. Im also working on an East Coast Skateboard documentary with Justin Warias. Hopefully that will wrap up in the next year or so. NJ skateshop will be opening a fourth store in the area i grew up in and have given me the honors of running it. So im looking forward to that.

07.01.08 Barrier Stolen.

That’s right. Someone managed to steal Nocturnal’s 300 pound Barrier.
So much for all that footage from Kerry Getz, Kevin Taylor, Pete Eldridge, Mike Maldonado, Oyola and all the rest of the Phillys heads we were hoping to see.
In no way do we believe Kharma had anything to do with it.
